One person is dead and another is in critical condition after police say a garbage truck and tractor trailer crashed in Sullivan County. Police say it happened on Highway 42 around 12:20 p.m. Monday in the Town of Thompson. They say a tractor trailer crossed the double yellow line, rolled over and hit a garbage truck heading towards Monticello.
(A Neighbor) said Celestino was nice to her and her daughter when she was struggling, and that he was clearly distraught at losing his home. "He had nowhere else to go," she said. Treasurer Ira Cohen said Celestino owed $12,500 in taxes and the home was sold to a buyer for $10,500. Cohen said the county still owns it and the new buyer won't lose the deposit money.

Sullivan County Legislator Ira Steingart has filed an Article 78 proceeding in State Supreme Court contending the legislature was wrong when it voted to lower the number of votes needed to remove a county manager. Local law had required six votes and when that couldn't be accomplished months ago, the majority voted to lower that to five, but an agreement was reached for the county to pay then Manager David Fanslau $80,000 and to negotiate a separation agreement.

It's time to institute non partisan elections in Sullivan County
Let's eliminate out of touch political party influence in local elections

I am relatively new to Sullivan County, so I must admit the "Good Old Boys" I often read about ruling Sullivan County are most mysterious to me.
I just don't know if I have ever met one or not.
Nationally, in recent years the Democratic Party has been moving farther to the left and the Republican Party has been moving farther to the right.
Ironically both parties are now in positionswhere significantly increasing numbers of Americans don't like either party. Both parties are out of touch at all levels with the electorate.
And when was the last time we could actually believe anything a politician told us anyway
