Monticello will be transformed this weekend by a big, bodacious blast of Borscht Belt pride, as the very first Bagel Festival is rolled out on Broadway -- with a tasting event entitled "Bagels and Bits on Broadway" that pairs bagels with tidbits from local chefs and farmers, a Giant Peace Sign Bagel paying homage to Woodstock, a chance to make the Guinness Book of World Records, and a Bagel Triathlon..
It would be nice to see a severely economically depressed community come back to life. Throw them a life preserver, in the form of a bagel, and check it out.

"It's taken a long time," Legislature Chairman Scott Samuelson said of the ethics reform process. "There may still be things that may come up in the future that we have to address, but I'm glad we're there."
The newly passed Ethics Law and the work of the newly appointed Ethics Board will provide a sort of moral compass for many politicians - and maybe a hot potato for few others. If the potato is too hot, one can always pursue other interests - public service is not for all. Our new Ethics Board will be there to carry out the good fight for such good ethical behavior in our local county government.

The towns of Forestburgh and Thompson will explore consolidating their highway departments. There has been some sharing of services in the past, but Forestburgh Supervisor William Sipos said they are looking into formalizing an agreement for a couple of reasons.
Judging the population of Forestburgh and the amount of town highway it has, consolidation is a good idea to explore. And it should be the start of serious discussions involving the cash strapped villages and towns throughout Sullivan County and the county and state too that face increasing costs for highway department budgets.

The Woodstock Music & Art Fair (informally, Woodstock or the Woodstock Festival) was a music festival, billed as "An Aquarian Exposition: 3 Days of Peace & Music". It was held at Max Yasgur's 600-acre (240 ha; 0.94 sq mi) dairy farm in the Catskills near the hamlet of White Lake in the town of Bethel, New York, from August 15 to August 18, 1969. Bethel, in Sullivan County, is 43 miles (69 km) southwest of the town of Woodstock, New York, in adjoining Ulster County. During the sometimes rainy weekend, thirty-two acts performed outdoors in front of 400,000 concert-goers.It is widely regarded as a pivotal moment in popular music history. Rolling Stone listed it as one of the 50 Moments That Changed the History of Rock and Roll.
