In a letter to Governor Cuomo, who will sign legislation shortly to place it on the ballot, Samuelson urged him to "use your significant, persuasive abilities to help bring the message home for that region and the state." The chairman told the governor he has the full support of Sullivan officials. "We are going to do as much as we possibly can as a local entity, but also reaching out to our regional area, to support him in getting this referendum passed," Samuelson said. "That's out next step and it is the most important step that we have at the moment."

What could be more nostalgia-inducing than Woodstock for my generation - of which some five million people over age 60, conservatively estimated, now claim to have attended? And yet how many baby boomers - or other potential visitors - know that Woodstock took place in Bethel, not Woodstock, and that they can now attend concerts in an open-air, spectacularly situated facility that ranks among the top such venues in the world? Or browse through the adjacent Museum at Bethel Woods, displaying Woodstock memorabilia and special exhibits from the era?

In my previous column I questioned the safety of the pair of newly-installed traffic circles in Liberty. I argued how the flawed design of these circles, not bad driving, invites traffic accidents.
However, throughout the rest of Sullivan County, actual and potential accidents are clearly the result of poor driving habits.
One of my major peeves involves just plain laziness on behalf of drivers!
The county, being both hilly and rural, has many two-lane roads that twist and turn, often providing treacherous sharp curves for motorists to traverse with their cars...Continue Reading
